In January 2023, I was interviewed on "Detroit Today with Stephen Henderson," on WDET radio (Detroit's NPR affiliate). On the episode "Does our criminal justice system allow for true redemption?", I discussed the reasons why the state punishes, what it means to pay your debt to society, and whether collateral legal consequences such as employment or voting restrictions are ever justifiable.
In June 2020, I was interviewed on the podcast Hi-Phi Nation. On season 4, episode 6, "Punishment Without End," I talked about my book Beyond Punishment? and the ethical questions raised by restrictive measures imposed on people with criminal records.
I wrote “The Danger of Making Exceptions for the Death Penalty,” for IAI News (Oct. 8, 2018).
I wrote “Do You Have to Kill to Be a Murderer?” for IAI News (May 14, 2018).
I wrote “Ched Evans: What do we mean when we talk about offenders paying their debts to society,” The Conversation (Jan. 9, 2015).
