I'm an associate professor in philosophy at the University of Nottingham. I write and teach about legal, political, and moral philosophy. In particular, I am interested in philosophical questions underlying the criminal law. My book Beyond Punishment? A Normative Account of the Collateral Legal Consequences of Conviction (OUP 2019) examines whether employment restrictions, voting bans, or other restrictive legal policies targeting people with criminal convictions are ever justifiable.

Before joining the philosophy department at Nottingham, I was a research fellow at the Robina Institute of Criminal Law and Criminal Justice at the University of Minnesota. Before that, I earned my doctorate at Washington University in St. Louis.
